About Dave Earl

Dave Earl is a photographer/artist from Eastern MN/Western WI.   His work is heavily influenced by alternative processes and early Pictorialism. His creative process includes both traditional and non-traditional techniques, including extreme depths of field (dof), unusual perspectives, long exposure, intentional camera movements (ICM), and experimental lenses. He uses both analogue (film) and digital formats and actively experiments with alternate processes including pinhole, infrared, full spectrum, and the modern cyanotype. In addition to photography, his creative pursuits include painting, creating digital art based on his own photographs, and collecting found imagery/photos.

His work has appeared in various publications (print and digital) and has been collected and exhibited in the United States and Europe. Most recently he was a featured artist in the NudeArtZine series by the Italian Publisher Grandolini Indie Press (volume 14 available on Amazon) and NudeArtZine's Best of 2021, also available on Amazon.  He is presently working on his third book which will feature bodyscape photography.

Artist Statement:

I view myself as an experimental photographer who specializes in the fine art nude. I am drawn to the endless beauty and power of the female form, and use my photography to explore the relationships between body and soul, conscious and unconscious, and reality versus unreality. My work is often abstract and surreal, more concerned about the imagined than the present. I use a variety of techniques as part of the creative process, including long exposure, intentional camera movement, infrared, pinhole and experimental lenses. I am interested in the way that light and shadow can be used to tell a story, express thought, and show us more about the world and ourselves.
